Frequently Asked Questions
on Infant Sleep
Will my baby sleep through the night by 12 weeks?
Not necessarily and that's completely normal. Babies wake during the night for many reasons, including hunger, growth, comfort, and development. Sleeping through the night isn't a milestone that all babies reach at the same age.
Am I creating bad habits by rocking or feeding my baby to sleep?
No. Babies rely on caregivers to help them feel safe and regulated. Rocking, feeding, cuddling, and responding to your baby's cues are biologically normal ways to support sleep, especially during the first year.
Should I keep my baby awake longer so they'll sleep better?
Often, the opposite is true. An overtired baby can have a harder time falling asleep and staying asleep. Understanding your baby's sleep cues and age-appropriate wake windows is usually more helpful than trying to "stretch" their awake time.
Do I need to fix my Baby’s sleep?
Absolutely not, your baby's sleep isn't broken. It only deserves to be understood.
Do babies need complete silence and darkness to sleep?
A calm sleep environment can be helpful, but babies don't need perfect conditions. Every baby is different, and many can learn to sleep in a variety of environments with the right support.
Can you help even if I don't want a strict schedule?
I cannot help put your baby on a ‘strict' schedule’ but I can help with routines which can be helpful. Every family is different and together we will create a flexible plan that fits your lifestyle and supports your baby's natural rhythms.
Do you use cry-it-out methods?
No. I believe babies communicate through their behaviour, including their sleep. Rather than asking babies to cope on their own, I help parents understand what their baby is telling them and create practical, responsive strategies that encourage healthy sleep while maintaining a strong, secure connection.
When should I seek help with my baby's sleep?
If you're feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or unsure about your baby's sleep, you don't have to wait until things feel unmanageable. Sometimes small adjustments and reassurance can make a significant difference.
What is the goal of a sleep consultation?
My goal isn't to create a "perfect sleeper." It's to help you understand your baby's sleep, build confidence in responding to their needs, and develop sustainable
